As one of Chablis’ most famous names, Dauvissat is hardly known for good value, but his under the radar cousin Sebastien Dauvissat is fast becoming out go-to for top notch, classically styled Chablis at an accessible price. In fact, we are grabbing as much as we can of Sebastien’s 2018 ‘Cuvee Saint Pierre’, which offers tons of minerally Chablis character that will appeal to fans of easy going (but unoaked) Chardonnay. Plus, at only $29.94, this is a great value for White Burgundy, and you won’t find a better price anywhere else!

This branch of the Dauvissat family has owned vineyards in Chablis since 1899, but it wasn’t until more recently that Jean Dauvissat was inspired by the success of his cousin René and began estate bottling. Today, Sebastien Dauvissat continues his father’s work, eschewing oak and bottling only after two years. The result is classic Chablis energy but with an openness and texture that is “soft, pretty and very easy to like” (Vinous), and doesn’t need to age like his 1er crus. 2018 was very similar in Chablis to 2009, producing “generous and charming” wines (Wine Advocate) that makes these village level offerings so attractive on release. The 2018 ‘Saint-Pierre’ is a delightful bottle of steel aged Chardonnay that would make a perfect wine for the spring and summer months, if they ever get here! Fans of unoaked Chardonnay will want to load up by the case. Cheers!

Vinous: "The 2018 Chablis Saint Pierre is soft, pretty and very easy to like. Today, the 2018 is a bit tight, but that is most likely a result of its relatively recent bottling. Hints of dried pear, spice and crushed flowers grace the attractive, understated finish. The Saint Pierre was done entirely in steel, and bottled in March 2019." (89 points) - Antonio Galloni
