"...why can’t there be more Bourgogne blancs like this?" - Wine & Spirits

Burgundy rarely gets to claim superior value when it comes to great Chardonnay, but Maison Chanzy is making an increasingly strong argument that the Côte Chalonnaise can rival any new world region for crowd-pleasing, classically styled Chard at a ridiculously affordable price. With creamy texture, refreshing minerality, and ripe fruit, this “fat and happy” Chardonnay (Wine & Spirits) is the perfect unpretentious companion for when things finally get warmer, and at $23.94 you can stock up by the case!

Maison Chanzy's ‘Les Fortunes’ blanc comes primarily from the hill of La Fortune in Bouzeron, at the northern tip of the Cote Chalonnaise. Like Pouilly Fuisse in the Maconnaise, this is a region that has long been overlooked in favor of the Cote d’Or, but for delicious, everyday Chardonnay, it's a rare source of affordable white Burgundy. As prices in the rest of Burgundy stay in the stratosphere, the Côte Chalonnaise is more popular than ever and Maison Chanzy is a fixture here. Winemaker Marc Jessiaume pursues “freshness and energy” in his wines with minimal new oak, but these Chardonnays have plenty of full texture and ripe fruit too, thanks to the “charming” vintage (Wine Advocate). That makes this a joy to drink with or without food, and at this price you'll have no problem loading up in quantity. Cheers!

91 points, Decanter: "Pleasing lemon citrus with delicate grassy notes; creamy and lush with a lovely mineral freshness and a firm finish."
