Bordeaux’s Chateau Troplong-Mondot is a large wine estate on the Right Bank of the Gironde River overlooking the village of Saint Emilion. Its 33-hectare vineyard is planted traditionally with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The chateau dates back to 1745 and Troplong-Mondot was originally part of one sizeable domaine which included the vineyards of Chateau Pavie. The current estate was established in 1850 when Raymond-Theodore Troplong acquired Mondot, expanded the vineyard, and promoted its reputation. Following a trend of that period, his heir Edouard Troplong later added Mondot to his name and Troplong-Mondot was born.

The property passed into the hands of the Valette family at the beginning of the 20th century, with Christine Valette taking up management of the property in 1980. Since then, things quickly changed for the better. The quality of the wines improved and Chateau Troplong-Mondot became known as one of the top wines of the Right Bank.

Christine Valette has since passed away and today, the estate is managed by Xavier Pariente who has been involved with the estate since 2002. In 2006, it was awarded the Premier Grand Cru Classe B in the Saint Emilion classification.

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to a true gem from the Bordeaux region of France - the 1985 Troplong-Mondot Worn Label. This exquisite red wine is a Bordeaux Blend, crafted with meticulous attention to detail by the esteemed producer, Troplong-Mondot.

In the glass, this wine showcases a deep, captivating red color that is sure to catch your eye. Its vibrant hues hint at the rich flavors and complexities that await your palate. As you bring the glass to your nose, an enticing bouquet of aromas fills the air. Notes of ripe blackberries and plums dance alongside hints of cedar, leather, and tobacco. The delicate touch of oak adds a subtle layer of vanilla and spice, completing the aromatic symphony.

On the palate, the 1985 Troplong-Mondot Worn Label delivers a remarkable experience. The velvety smooth texture caresses your tongue, while the well-integrated tannins provide a firm structure. Flavors of black cherries, cassis, and dark chocolate unfold gracefully, intertwining with nuances of earth and graphite. The wine's exceptional balance ensures that no element overpowers the others, resulting in a harmonious and elegant expression.

This Bordeaux beauty hails from the Pomerol sub-region, renowned for producing some of the finest wines in the world. Its pedigree is unmistakable, as it showcases the characteristics that have made Bordeaux wines so highly sought after.

To fully appreciate the 1985 Troplong-Mondot Worn Label, I recommend decanting it for at least one hour before serving. This will allow the wine to breathe and reveal its full potential. Pair this remarkable vintage with roasted lamb, filet mignon, or a selection of aged cheeses for an unforgettable dining experience.

Though the label may show signs of wear, the wine inside remains a testament to the craftsmanship of Troplong-Mondot and the exceptional 1985 vintage. Don't miss the opportunity to savor this captivating Bordeaux Blend - a testament to the artistry of winemaking.
