Medium brick in color, the 1990 Hill of Grace has a very pretty core of cherry cordial, violets, dried roses, cinnamon stick, anise and a whiff of pepper. Medium-bodied, it has great generosity in the mouth balanced by a nice acid line and a medium level of velvety tannins through the long finish. The 1990 Shiraz Hill of Grace comes from a highly regarded vintage. It is starting to show significant development with intense blackberry, mulberry and praline aromas topped by old leather and roasted spices. There is good intensity and fruit drive on the palate. Powerful, spicy mushrooms and baked earthy tones are underpinned by tannins that are just starting to soften and deliver a lengthy finish. Drinking nicely now and for the next decade, but without significant improvement. -- Angus Hughson
