Improves from the minute it's decanted, showing a full and velvety palate with soft textured tannins and wet earth and minerals with plum flavors. Some dried herbs too. It's round and delicious. It's round and delicious. I have had this St. Julien a number of times and it never fails to satisfy.

Lovely berry and tobacco and mineral character. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a silky finish. ..

This beautiful Bordeaux fruit bomb offers abundant notes of black currants, herbs, cherries, cedar, and spice box. A surprisingly dark crimson core. The 2000 Chateau Gloria leads with aromas of dried herbs and fresh cut tobacco which are supported by fresh notes of dark black fruits and a touch of sous bois and smoke. This is still showing excellent weight and is supported by well rounded, soft, yet persistent tannins. At 15 years of age this Saint-Julien is true to style for the region characterized by the open profile and friendly tannins. Still fresh and vibrant this seems to have entered a peak drinking window and should hold nicely for another 10 years, but there is no reason to wait.

Chateau Gloria is harvested by hand, with traditional vinification and fermentation in heat-regulated stainless steel vats. The wine matures for 14 months in casks, 40% of them new. Recent vintages have featured jammy fruit, typically prune and black currant, with rich but approachable tannins.

Winery

Chateau Gloria

Chateau Gloria is one-of-a-kind, created by Henri Martin who purchased plots piece-by-piece, but exclusively from crus classified in 1855. The 50 hectare vineyard spans three areas: the middle of Beychevelle, the west of Saint-Julien and, on the north, on the border of Pauillac.

The vines include 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot on Gunzian gravel soil over a layer of clay and sand. Average vine age is 40 years.

Chateau Gloria also has a second wine, Chateau Peymartin, produced using the estate's youngest vines.
