92+ This most recent bottle of 2000 Magdelaine was showing very well indeed and is clearly aging in a traditional manner and going to be one of the top St. Émilions in this vintage. The wine is starting to blossom nicely on the nose today, as it delivers a mix of red and black cherries, cigar smoke, nutskin, a great base of soil, a deft framing of new wood and the first sings of the autumnal elements to come. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and complex, with lovely mid-palate depth, ripe tannins and superb length and grip and a long, focused and very classy finish. At age fifteen this is still a very young wine and it may well prove that my rating for the wine will prove too conservative as the years unfold and the wine more fully blossoms, but for the moment, the 2000 does not quite possess the same elegance and potential breed of other top recent vintages such as 2008.
