One of the wines of the vintage, the magical 2001 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is even better than Coche's superb Corton-Charlemagne! Wafting from the glass with notes of crisp orchard fruit, citrus oil, freshly baked bread, white flowers and subtle hints of iodine and oyster shell, it's full-bodied, seamless and complete, with a satiny attack that segues into a deep, concentrated core, framed by imposing levels of chalky dry extract and underpinned by a tangy spine of acidity. At age 20, it is in its prime today. - William Kelley
