A blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc with malolactic in barrel and no filtration it is a dense surprisingly powerful robust 2001 exhibiting a saturated ruby/purple color and plenty of sweet chocolatey espresso-infused black cherry fruit. Deep chewy and muscular yet surprisingly pure and layered it should drink well young yet evolve for a decade. This brilliantly made Lalande de Pomerol is fashioned by the same producer as Pomerol's La Croix St.-Georges. Everything about the winemaking is artisinal. Sadly the production is small since the vineyard is only 3.5 acres.
