The 2002 Vecina comes from a vineyard not far from the steep hillsides of Harlan Estate, on the western hills of the Mayacamas Mountains overlooking the Oakville corridor and the eastern hillsides. This is a much earthier, spicier, more structured wine, much more masculine, with notes of scorched earth and almost Graves-like smoky, camphor and barbecue notes as well as black fruits galore. With its big, muscular structure and dense opaque/purple color, this wine actually seems younger in its evolution than either the St. Eden or Melbury. It is probably best forgotten for another 5-6 years, with another 30-34 years lifeline potential. It’s a sensational wine. - Robert Parker

It’s a bit backward, with an earthy, mushroomy, soy and balsamic taste alongside the briary berry flavors. Has an almost feral quality that is quite interesting and different. With its big backsplash of tannins, it might age best of the current trio. Drink now–2020.

Smooth rich and polished with a seductive array of blackberry currant and black cherry fruit that glides across the palate. This is a complex deeply concentrated wine with tannins that are ripe and round even silky for its age. Best from 2007 through 2015. 400 cases made.

Superripe aromas of plum black raspberry and tobacco; just this side of roasted. Dense thick and deep with superb depth of sweet berries complicated by minerals sweet butter and tobacco. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and excellent length. Comes across as the least refined of these three bottlings in 2002 but boasts compelling depth and richness.
