Not surprisingly the 2002 Sloan is cut from the same mold as the 2001 with a slightly higher pH mouthfeel perhaps more alcohol (I didn’t confirm that) and a monster finish. Inky/purple to the rim with a huge nose of roasted herbs black fruits coffee cigar smoke and other celestial aromas this opulent unctuously-textured full-bodied wine is bursting with concentration as well as personality. Sweet chewy tannin is found in the 60+ second finish. It is not exhibiting the definition of the 2001 and may be slightly more powerful and concentrated but barrel aging should result in another extraordinarily detailed and nuanced world-class effort of prodigious proportions.
