Chateau Rieussec has been a leader among the great wines of Sauternes for several generations. Ranked as a Premier Grand Cru in 1855, it is made with a subtle blend of Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle. Aged in oak barrels for 18 to 26 months depending on the year, with 50 to 55% in new barrels. The annual production varies a great deal depending on the vintage, but on average is about 6,000 cases, however, none was made in 1977, 1993 and 2012.

The 2003 Rieussec Sauternes Blend from Bordeaux is an exceptional white wine that has garnered high praise from several respected wine reviewers. Produced by Rieussec, this wine hails from the renowned Sauternes sub-region and showcases the unique characteristics of this appellation. With an alcohol content of 14.0% and sealed with a cork, this wine promises a rich and indulgent experience.

Wine Spectator awarded the 2003 Rieussec a score of 95, describing it as "big, rich, and juicy" with "aromas of caramel apple and light tropical fruit." The reviewer emphasized the wine's "full-bodied" nature and "very sweet" profile, noting the "loads of ripe fruit" and a "long butterscotch and piecrust aftertaste." The wine's "viscous texture" makes it particularly appealing, with the reviewer noting that it is "hard not to drink it now" but suggesting that it will be even better after 2010. Wine Spectator also highlighted the production volume, stating that 6,250 cases were made.

James Suckling provided an even higher score, awarding the wine 97 points. He lauded its richness and power, remarking on the "dried apricots and citrus aromas and flavors" along with hints of "caramel and toffee." Suckling described the wine as "full and very sweet," concluding his review with a single word: "Amazing."

Jeff Leve from The Wine Cellar Insider gave the wine a score of 94, praising its "thick, rich, intense" character. He highlighted the "layers of perfectly ripe tropical fruit slathered in honey, vanilla, and nuts," describing it as a "beautiful, sweet Bordeaux" that offers significant pleasure both now and in the future.
