The 2005 Chateau Nairac has a “fluffy” bouquet that is missing the detail of more recent vintages, although there are attractive scents of clear honey and wet wool, later hints of passion fruit and a faint whiff of brioche. The palate is where it really excels: well-balanced with crisp acidity. There is a spicy undertone that ties in with a linear, but precise, finish. This is a conservative Nairac without flair, and is drinking beautifully now, but I suspect it will repay extended cellaring. Drink now-2030. Tasted March 2014. - NEAL MARTIN
