The 2005 Pico Madama is composed of 50% Monastrell and 50% Petit Verdot. Both varieties were aged in oak for 13 months Petit Verdot in French and Monastrell in American. Deep purple-colored it reveals an alluring nose of wood smoke pencil lead mineral violets blueberry and blackberry. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with a smooth-texture excellent depth and concentration and a sense of elegance. It nicely conceals enough tannin to carry the wine for another 6-8 years of cellaring. It will drink well through 2025.
