The 2005 Riesling Heimbourg displays a lovely and unusual sense of generous ripeness even though it has barely over 12% alcohol and its eleven grams of residual sugar can scarcely be detected. Some fermentative aromas still cling to the glass but grapefruit peppermint vanilla and brown-spiced plum emerge and follow the juicy succulent course of this delightful Riesling into a lip-smacking yet chalk- mineral-drenched and white pepper-tinged finish. There is a superficial resemblance to Gruner Veltliner in the meld of nutmeg and white pepper on display here and this refined generous Riesling should be a delight for at least 5-7 years.
