A new proprietor Thierry de la Brosse (also the principal owner of the famed Paris bistro Lâ Ami Louis) purchased a St.-Emilion property called Rol de Fombrauge and renamed it after his restaurant. This tiny 7.5-acre estate is planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and Stephan Derenoncourt has been brought in to oversee the winemaking. There are only 500 cases of the powerful 2006 which is unquestionably the finest wine I have ever tasted from this vineyard. Exhibiting a deep ruby/purple color along with a sweet bouquet of kirsch licorice pain grille and spice the supple-textured medium to full-bodied elegant pure 2006 is surprisingly powerful for the vintage (13.9% natural alcohol). It is an undeniable sleeper of the vintage that should drink beautifully for 15 or more years.
