Superripe aromas of cherry, rose petal and caramel. Silky-sweet and a bit high-toned, with a sappy spice character to the superripe, intense red fruit flavors. This really saturates the palate and yet it comes across as a bit stunted today, even youthfully aggressive. Finishes silky and suave, though.

Sweet, almost over-ripe fruit meets an astringent layer of tannin on the palate, and these tannins – along with a tactile sense of brown spices – make for a finish of grip and sizzle but not much fluidity or charm. It could be – as Laurent suggests – that this wine is simply slow to recover from bottling compared with most of his 2006s. - David Schildknecht
