On first impression the nose suggests a quality-driven Left Bank Bordeaux as herbs new cedar and cassis mingle brilliantly on the aromatics. A more forward fruit expression of cassis and black plum on the palate is reminiscent of a Napa cab blend made from mountain fruit as licorice and black olives coat the full-bodied mid-palate with a dry mineral-infused finish. Yet this is a lovely red from South Africa! In fact Rustenberg is just releasing their flagship 2007 vintage and the added year of bottle age has enhanced the bouquet and overall mouthfeel. Tempting to aerate for 90 minutes and enjoy now this well-crafted blend will easily hold well in the cellar for another 10 to 12 years. And based on the quality in the glass this is a steal!
