Wine Enthusiast, June 2011

Aging may make this Cabernet more harmonious than it is now. It’s a dramatic wine, ripe in blackberries and cassis, rich in oak, and with smooth, intricate tannins. Yet it’s klutzy now, almost rude, like a gawky teenager...
WS 88

Wine Spectator, July 2011

A solid, if straightforward, effort, showing mature currant, herb, dried berry, cedar and sage flavors. Smooth-textured and full-bodied, ending with a minerally edge to the tannins. Drink now through 2018. – JL

Vine Cliff Winery was established in 1871, when 500 acres were carved out of the George Yount estate. One of the first bonded wineries in the United States, and the first in Napa to plant Bordeaux varietals on a commercial scale, Vine Cliff was among the region’s most successful wineries through the end of the 19th Century. A series of natural problems drove the winery under in the early 20th Century, with the land remaining fallow until it was purchased by Nell Sweeney for her family in 1985.

With Nell's vision as Proprietress and her relentless effort to create a warm and welcoming experience, matched by the passion of Vine Cliff's wine-making team in the pursuit of sustainable farming and the making of quality handcrafted wines, Vine Cliff has regained its position as a leader in the production of premium world class Napa Valley wines.

Their one-hundred acre estate in the Oakville region is home to the Sweeney family and the site of Vine Cliff's wine making facilities and guest center. Only 25 acres are planted, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon for which the Oakville appellation is so renowned.

Their 12-acre estate vineyard in the renowned Los Carneros appellation provides all the fruit for their Chardonnays.

The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is Vine Cliff’s interpretation of a “classic” Napa cab. It is a combination of fruit from several of their estate vineyards. Well-aged and integrated, this wine is balanced and drinks beautifully.
