59% Cabernet Sauvignon & 39% Merlot (which leaves 2% to the "other" category) this is the first vintage of Lafon-Rochet to be mainly Cabernet Sauvignon. This sits right in the middle of Cos d'Estournel and Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. A perfect example of a St. Estephe that blooms in the glass-starting with damp earth it yields to classic Cabernet flavors of cassis and dusty spice becoming prettier and prettier with air. This features a very balanced palate and good concentration and sweet fine tannins. I'd hold until 2014 and then drink over the next ten years.

Dark tannins provide the structured for the Cabernet Sauvignon black currant flavors. It has power-this is a big and solid wine given tension by tannins that will take several years to soften out. R.V.

A strong effort for this vintage the 2008 exhibits a dark plum/purple color plenty of firm rugged austere tannins copious red and black fruits admirable flavor intensity and medium body. Cellar it for 3-4 years and drink... A direct red with a firm edge to the beam of black cherry and black currant fruit. The light chalkiness edge lingers on the tobacco-tinged finish though the plum fruit fleshes out enough for balance.
