94+ The 2008 Burguet Clos de Bèze is a tour de force this year. The magical bouquet soars from the glass in a blend of cherries, blood orange, strawberries, orange zest, coffee, just a touch of spicy wood and kaleidoscopic minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and rock solid at the core, with beautiful transparency, impeccable balance, tangy acids and stunning length and grip on the focused and ripely tannic finish. The tannins here are absolutely seamlessly woven into the body of the wine, and the synthesis of fruit, spice and minerality is exactly what great Burgundy is all about. A brilliant wine.
