Vinous, February 2018

The 2008 La Mission Haut-Brion has an open, feisty, lively bouquet with blackberry, briary, cedar, black olive and a light seaweed (Japanese nori) aroma. This is wonderful, an intoxicating bouquet. The palate is...

jebdunnuck.com, February 2019

A beautiful, high-class effort that offers incredible pleasure, the 2008 La Mission Haut Brion is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc brought up in a mix of new and used barrels. Ripe...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, May 2012

Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. Two bottles tasted and I was initially parsimonious with my score since it seems to have closed down. Allowing the wine to continually aerate, it finally agrees to reveal...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2012

Like a lot of wines in this underrated vintage the 2008 La Mission was one of the great bargains of recent vintages. Its healthy blue/purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries black raspberries licorice truffles...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2011

Dark and concentrated this is a powerhouse of flavors and dense tannins. It's a wonderful combination of velvet texture and dry structure. Layered complex wood and spice already showing signs of integration but certainly...

Decanter, December 2017

Elegant and fresh, with beautiful crushed raspberry fruits - proof that 2008 is a vintage where terroir wins out. This all happens on the retro-olfaction: there you are thinking it's a little under-perfumed for a Mission...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2018

Powerful, youthful, tannic, fresh and even a but crisp, the wine is full bodied, offering tobacco, cigar wrapper, tobacco and dark. deep, red fruits. There is a firm, almost strict nature to the tannins. There is the...

Fascinating aromas of crushed berry plums sweet tobacco and stones. Full bodied with chewy and velvety tannins and a long long finish. This is very structured and rich with a bright and tangy acidity. Needs time to come...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, January 2012

18/20 Mid crimson. Quite a light nose but lovely fresh tea and herbs on the palate. Real interest under here. This wine reveals itself successively via layers of flavour on the palate. Invigorating. Health juice. Lovely...

Created by the noble Lestonnac family in the early years of the 16th century, the vineyard of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion owes its name and its reputation to a missionary order commonly known as the Lazarites, who held the property from 1682 until the French Revolution.

The property is situated just opposite that of Chateau Haut-Brion, in the Pessac-Leognan appellation of the Northern Graves region. The vineyard covers an area of 29 hectares of which 26.60 hectares are planted with 42.7% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10.3% Cabernet Franc with an annual production of 6,000 to 7,000 cases. Over 3 hectares are devoted to white grape varieties (Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc).

In 1983, the Dillon family, already owners of Chateau Haut-Brion, added Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion to Domaine Clarence Dillon’s holdings. The new owners immediately set to work on an ambitious renovation program for the property, giving La Mission a new lease on life.

In the space of twenty-five years, the Dillon family, having fallen under the spell of this enchanting estate, successfully completed their impressive makeover of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion so that for many years to come , it might continue to offer wine connoisseurs the world over a little glimpse of paradise in each bottle.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is definitely bewitching. It possesses a great intensity that delights with complex red fruits and and the signature of its terroir showing notes of Havana cigars, chocolate, and roasted cedarwood. On the palate, the wine is spherical and generous with a long, silky finish.
