Initially this was quite closed but with 45 minutes of aeration the nose opened to reveal aromas of violets, earth, stone and a mix of perfumed red and blue pinot fruit. The medium-bodied flavors were equally tight though focused with good mid-palate concentration and enough sap to buffer the otherwise very firm tannic spine, all wrapped in a moderately austere but solidly long finish. There is good power and robustness here and this will require all of a decade to arrive at its majority. Note that the austerity is sufficient that this will not make for easy drinking in its youth.
