A very subtle application of oak still frames the cool but ripe spicy red and black cherry aromas that display hints of secondary character together with notes of spice and earth. The vibrant, sleekly muscular and broad-shouldered flavors are powerful yet well-detailed on the strikingly intense finish that is chewy but not aggressive and blessed with impressive tension and depth. This is not one of the more seductive vintages of the Mongeard Ech, but for those who enjoy punch and that lovely sense of the wine inviting you to have another glass, this would make a fine choice. 2020+

A minty accent graces black cherry and earth flavors in this slightly chunky red, which is a bit rigid now, but starts out silky, so let it settle down and absorb the tannins. Fine length. Best from 2013 through 2024. – BS

There nose is quintessential Burgundy with its aromas of red cherry rhubarb menthol and anise along with a slight hint of underbrush. Not only is the bouquet complex but it showcases pedigree and place. The palate offers supple tannins and medium weight as well as more red cherry raspberry and mint all with a nice freshness and purity throughout. The finish is precise and lengthy with subtle tannins. Despite its relative youth this is very elegant and surprisingly approachable right now.
