A strikingly layered nose combines ample amounts of pungent Gevrey-style earth, spice, iron notes and ripe red and dark berry fruit that meld with very serious, even brooding big-bodied flavors that are built on a base of firm minerality and finish with excellent richness and depth. This is a classic Gevrey in both style and character with excellent power and really lovely balance. In a word, terrific.

A muscular Gevrey, this is velvety on the surface, tense with tannin underneath. There's a gaminess to the wine, a meaty, blood sausage scent that speaks of its power. Then it stretches into [more] subtle refinement on the palate. If a body could be elegant and ripped at once, this manages to suggest the possibility. The flavors have length, and the wine's suppleness makes it approachable now, if decanted with roast boar or other gamey meats. It should only improve in the cellar.

A lovely expression of black cherry, black currant and subtle underbrush notes, all well-integrated with the solid structure. Firm and muscular, but not rigid. There's a nice long finish too, but this will require time. Best from 2012 through 2023. 4 cases imported. –BS

Tasted at the IMW 2008 tasting at Vintners Hall. The Cazetiers has a lifted ripe cherry and blueberry scented bouquet, light but well defined with touches of apricot developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a hint of mocha on the entry, firm tannic backbone fanning out nicely with a sweet strawberry and orange zest finish. Fine.
