(BH90-92 points) As it almost always is, this is notably more elegant with a highly perfumed nose of plum, violets, minerals and damp earth that complements well the intensely stony, rich, detailed and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent volume and a velvety mouth feel, all wrapped in a delicious, firm and long finish. There is a touch of dryness here but again, there is sufficient supporting extract that this should round out. Sweet spot Outstanding ♥

(WA90-91 points) Ripe plum and cherry, mushroom stock, cedar, and brown spices mark the nose of Landanger’s 2008 Volnay Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrees, which conveys an energy reminiscent of – but going beyond – that exhibited by the 2006. At the same time, there is a dark chocolate richness accompanying the persistent sweetness of fruit, with cherry pit, chalk, fruit skin chew offering a slightly austere counterpoint in its lingering finish. This should be a 12-15 year keeper, and hopefully grow in stature with time. - David Schildknecht
