jebdunnuck.com, February 2019

Unquestionably one of the gems in the vintage is the 2008 Pontet-Canet, which reminds me of the 2005 with its concentrated, deep, powerful style. Beautiful dark fruits, graphite, obvious minerality, and classic Pauillac...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, September 2018

Rich, full-bodied, deep, intense and loaded to the brim with crème de cassis, tobacco, smoke, wet forest floor and cherry pipe tobacco elements, the wine is mouth-filling, tannic, long, deep and complex. Everything about...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2011

A candidate for the "wine of the vintage" Pontet Canet's 2008 boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious aromas of sweet blueberries blackberries and black currant fruit intertwined with lead pencil shavings subtle...

Decanter, January 2018

Oh, I love this! This is Pauillac distilled, flirting on the edge of ripeness with brambly cassis and dark chocolate. This is just the right mix of open and closed for me, layered and confident but not overdone. It has...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2011

Smooth, with dense tannins hidden behind the ripe, pure fruit, this important wine shows class and an impeccable balance of fruit and tannin. Rich as well as structured, this is a beautiful wine.

The minerality and floral character to this is really impressive with lots of bark, currant and dried rose character. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins and a mouthwatering finish. Made from biodynamcially grown...

Tasted at the estate a few months ago (blind against the five 1855 First Growths, where it more than held its own), and again at home within the same week as this vertical. A great vintage to look out for, with brushed...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, March 2012

Tasted ex-chateau and single blind in Southwold. The Pontet-Canet 2008 has a lovely, extravagant bouquet with scents of blackberry, macerated dark cherries, graphite and sous-bois. It is very well defined. The palate is...

Wine Spectator, April 2011

Quite dense but pure and fresh with the core of fig damson plum and mulled cherry fruit already well-defined and the back end of rounded loam and roasted cedar grip fully integrated. The finish is long and powerful. Best...

Chateau Pontet-Canet is bright and brilliant with full-bodied fruit, yet finesse, in the mouth. It expresses energy, tension and intensity.

The fruit is fermented with native yeast in semi-conical concrete tanks that facilitate punch-downs. The wine then macerates for an additional four weeks before being removed from the pomace for maturation. One-third of the wine is aged in large, concrete amphorae, designed expressly for Pontet-Canet. The rest ages in French oak barrels.

Ah, the 2008 Pontet-Canet, a Bordeaux Blend from the esteemed Pauillac region in France. This wine is truly a gem, showcasing the best of what Bordeaux has to offer. With its deep red color and elegant label, it immediately catches the eye and promises a delightful tasting experience.

On the nose, this wine exudes an enticing bouquet of black fruits, such as blackcurrants, blackberries, and plums. There is also a subtle hint of cedar and tobacco, adding complexity and depth to the aroma. As you take your first sip, the wine envelopes your palate with its velvety texture and well-integrated tannins.

The 2008 Pontet-Canet is a masterclass in balance. It strikes the perfect harmony between its fruit-forward flavors and its refined structure. The black fruits from the nose continue to shine on the palate, accompanied by notes of licorice, graphite, and a touch of vanilla. Every sip is a journey, with layers of flavors unfolding and evolving as the wine opens up.

This wine is medium-bodied and has a long, persistent finish that leaves you craving for more. It is a testament to the craftsmanship of the producer, Pontet-Canet, who has mastered the art of creating wines that age gracefully over the years. While it can certainly be enjoyed now, it has the potential to develop further with cellaring.

Overall, the 2008 Pontet-Canet is a wine that demands attention and respect. It embodies the essence of Bordeaux and showcases the unique terroir of the Pauillac region. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or just starting your journey into the world of fine wines, this bottle is sure to impress and leave a lasting impression.
