Lovely aromas of lime blossom, citronella and peach introduce this rich yet elegant white, which is very pure and delineated, with a mineral essence, though less opulent than recent vintages.—Non-blind 2009 DRC tasting (February 2012). Best from 2014 through 2030. –BS

An overtly ripe and moderately exotic yet very fresh nose exhibits a wonderfully complex aromatic profile comprised of a variety of both white and yellow orchard fruit, toasty oak, mango, spice and high-toned floral notes. The exceptionally rich and powerful large-scaled flavors brim with palate staining dry extract that imparts a seductive but also borderline chewy texture to the explosive and still very tightly wound finish. This is a huge Montrachet even by the outsized standards of what is typically the biggest white burgundy of all. This is seriously impressive and is a wine that should age for decades and about the only nit is that the 2009 version is perhaps slightly less refined than other recent vintages.

A broad, muscular wine, the 2009 Montrachet Grand Cru delivers a rich bouquet of honeyed orchard fruit, tangerine oil, toasted nuts and baking spices. Full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit and considerable mid-palate weight, it's dramatic and expansive, gaining in vivacity with time in the glass. Surely one of the most powerful white Burgundies produced in this vintage, it is aging with grace and offers compelling drinking today. - William Kelley

The 2009 Montrachet Grand Cru is laced with hints of apricot, ginger, tangerine oil, mint and spice. The warm, radiant personality of the year is very much evident, but there is just enough freshness, along with a touch of reduction, that keeps things in balance. I tasted two bottles; this note is for the better of the two. The 2009 is starting to show some signs of age. Then again, it is nearly 15 years old. What an absolute delight.
