I was very happy to have a pristine bottle of the 2009 Clos des Mouches to taste, after our reduced sample back in November. This is a very fine example of the vintage that once again recalls quite strongly the 1985 Clos des Mouches when it was first released. The bouquet is deep, vibrant and sappy, as it offers up a ripe blend of black cherries, plums, dark chocolate, gamebirds, a touch of caramel, mustard seed and a wonderful base of soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and opulent, with moderate tannins, excellent focus and grip and a long, tangy finish. This will drink well early on, but may age on its impeccable balance even longer than I project
