This might still be primary, but there is so much fruit, the tannins are plush and ripe and the concentration is there, it's hard not to see a great future for this wine. Inky dark in color, powerful, rich and deep, 3 hours in the decanter really helped the wine. Another decade in the cellar will however, help a lot more! Really packed, with gorgeous linzer torte, boysenberry preserves and warm currant confiture notes all supported by mouthwatering anise, apple wood and floral notes. The long, intense finish has mouthwatering acidity embedded deeply. Very vivid. Best from 2015 through 2025. 180 cases made. — JM

Marked by cedar and menthol aromas, Ferraton's 2009 Ermitage Les Dionnières delivers savory, earthy and meaty notes on the palate. It's full-bodied, admirably concentrated and reasonably long on the finish, but it seems to be evolving quickly.- JC
