This is a wine that seduces you with its crushed blackberries and hints of dark chocolate that follow through to a full body and ultra-fine tannins with a tangy fresh finish. Solid as a rock. Best ever from here. Try in 2019.

While it has weight and richness this is also seriously structured a wine packed with dry tannins. The potential is all there-the sweet fruit of the vintage along with a solid texture and final acidity. R.V.

The 2009 Kirwan showed extremely well, mocking my previous lukewarm reaction. It has an attractive cedar and graphite infused bouquet, plenty of black fruit with touches of wild mint developing with aeration. This coalesces nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine thread of acidity, gentle grip with hints of black pepper and cedar towards the nicely framed and persistent finish. Classy. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. -- Neal Martin

(92+ points) A big powerful Margaux that should age for 20+ years this inky purple-colored wine exhibits notes of spring flowers intermixed with blackberries raspberries and cassis. Some lead pencil shavings and toasty oak are also present in this powerful yet at the same time very pure textured full-throttle Kirwan. It needs about 5-7 years of cellaring and will be among the longest-lived wines of the vintage.

Lushly textured, round, supple, and already expressive. Very ripe on the nose, with richness on the palate.

A true Bordeaux blend with a lovely deep red color throughout. A bit more reserved on the nose with less ripe aromas than some other Margaux producers but really lovely nonetheless. Elegant and refined aromas of red currant spice box red raspberry and graphite. The palate is dry with more red raspberry and currant flavors leading to a very fine and elegant finish. This wine should age very well for 20 or more years.
