This shows chocolate berry and light tobacco character. Full body with a medium mid-palate and a delicious finish. Juicy wine. Drink now or hold.

As one might expect from its name this estate which has apparently been in existence since 1740 has been in litigation with the owners of Petrus (but not yet the famed Piedmontese producer). In 2009 consultant Stephane Derenoncourt produced a 100% Merlot revealing a dense ruby/purple color and a sweet nose of black fruits chocolate smoke and graphite. It is a delicious upfront fleshy wine to drink over the next 5-6 years. (Tasted once.)

The Grand Vin of Petrus Gaia. This red (consulted by Stephane Derenoncourt) with a name dating back to the 14th century (in case you were wondering if this was blatant plagiarism) comes from the best 5 HA of their 16.35 HA vineyard. Aged in half new half one-wine old barrels it is a very dark inky purple/red. Yields of 35 hls/ha. Super alive and fragrant it is still obviously evolving. It has almost a balsamic essence ripe fruit good texture and a fresh finish with a hint of dry tannin at the end. After 14 months in barrel this should start to come together and be wickedly good.
