An elegant pure and ripe nose of cassis plum-liqueur and earth is followed by supple refined and equally pure middle weight flavors that are mineral-inflected and quite firm while finishing with verve and excellent persistence. This stylish effort is really quite classy. - Comments: Outstanding ♥

The 2009 Gravains is cut from the riper side of the Pavelot ledger this year and really comes across as an exotic and exuberant 1990-like wine. The nose is a blend of black raspberries fruit cake dark chocolate grilled meats minerals and a touch of prune. On the palate the wine is deep full-bodied and powerful with a rock solid core of plush fruit fine-grained tannins and very very good length and grip on the modestly overripe finish. For fans of the 1990 red Burgs this will be a lovely bottle but for those who find those wines a bit over the top in style this is probably not going to be their cup of tea. It is a very very well-made bottle of wine by any stretch of the imagination. (drink 2016-2040)
