Melted tannins, juicy black fruits, finessed appellation signature, this opens to grilled blackberry and bilberries, brambed and pureed, with slate tannins and a wave of campfire smoke. Well balanced acidity also, this is...

Aromas of cocoa powder and currants, follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a juicy, berry and chocolate aftertaste. Lovely polish to this. Try in 2018.

65% cabernet sauvignon 30% merlot 5% petit verdot. Notes of mushroom damp wood and earth dominate the nose backed by notes of blackberry and espresso aromas. Big but very closed at this stage the tannins are grainy and...

Decanter, February 2019

A well structured wine with smoke and cedar edging to the aromatics, a generous, ripe fruit structure and soft, well-integrated tannins. It has clear appeal. At this stage, the 2005 seems to better encapsulate the heart...

Wine Enthusiast, February 2012

Initially generous the wine then becomes much more solid and dense. The structure is all there along with the ripest fruit. It is delicious and darkly tannic at the same time. R.V.

Wine Spectator, March 2012

Dark plum and blueberry compote notes lead the way followed by dark cocoa and tobacco. A fleshy feel runs throughout with a stony edge adding length and balance on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2021.

The grand vin of Talbot is harvested by hand, with vinification in a combination of cone-shaped wooden vats and stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for 14 months in 50 to 60 percent new barrels originating from eight different coopers. Renowned enologists Jacques Boissenot, Julien Lavenu and Stéphane Derenoncourt consult on the winemaking and blending.

The 2009 Talbot Bordeaux Blend from the St Julien sub-region of Bordeaux, France, is a red wine produced by Talbot. Sealed with a cork and containing 13.0% alcohol, this vintage has garnered a range of impressive reviews from various esteemed critics.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rated it 91 points, praising its "extremely sexy, soft, supple, and opulent" nature. The review highlights notes of "cedar, herbs, incense, and black currant fruit," describing it as a "full-bodied, generously endowed but silky Talbot" that is irresistible by any standard. Parker suggests that it is ready to drink now and will remain enjoyable for the next 20+ years.

Alex Shaw of JJ Buckley gave it 93 points, noting its composition of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. Shaw's tasting notes include "mushroom, damp wood, and earth" on the nose, with underlying hints of "blackberry and espresso aromas." He describes the wine as "big but very closed at this stage," with "grainy and tightly wound tannins" that linger on the palate without overpowering the fruit. Shaw recommends giving it 8-10 years to achieve balance and says it will be drinkable over the next two decades.

Wine Spectator also awarded it 91 points, noting "dark plum and blueberry compote" as predominant flavors, followed by "dark cocoa and tobacco." The review mentions a "fleshy feel" with a "stony edge" that adds length and balance to the finish. Wine Spectator suggests it will be best enjoyed between 2013 and 2021.

Wine Enthusiast gave it 93 points, describing the wine as "initially generous" before becoming "much more solid and dense." The structure, combined with "the ripest fruit," makes it both "delicious and darkly tannic." Reviewer R.V. highlights its dual nature as both approachable and complex.

James Suckling rated the wine 94 points, describing aromas of "cocoa powder and currants" leading to a "full body" with "ultra-fine tannins" and a "juicy, berry and chocolate aftertaste." Suckling appreciates its "lovely polish" and suggests trying it in 2018.

Decanter also rated it 93 points, noting its "well-structured" nature with "smoke and cedar edging to the aromatics" and a "generous, ripe fruit structure." The review mentions "soft, well-integrated tannins" and acknowledges its appeal, even though it may be less typical of the St-Julien appellation compared to the 2005 vintage.

Overall, the 2009 Talbot Bordeaux Blend is recognized for its complexity, structure, and aging potential, making it a standout wine in its category.
