TheWineCellarInsider.com, April 2022

This is heart-stopping wine. Hedonistic, opulent, sensuous, silky and flamboyant, the decadent, sexy character steals the show. And all the countless waves of dark chocolate, truffles, black cherry, mint, flowers, lilacs...

The Wine Independent, February 2024

The 2009 Trotanoy is deep garnet in color. It gallops out with powerful scents of plum preserves, blueberry compote, and candied violets, leading to nuances of mocha, licorice, and tapenade, plus a waft of smoked meats...

Wine Spectator, March 2012

This sports a dark chewy side for now with overt charcoal and roasted apple wood notes along with plenty of smoldering tobacco flavors. The core is still a bit chunky as well with roasted fig blackberry paste and steeped...

jamessuckling.com, February 2012

A deep nose of blueberries with chocolate mousse that turns to licorice and hints of rose petal. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that fill your mouth. But they are always soft and caressing. They last for minutes. I love...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, July 2013

Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. What a fabulous Pomerol this is. The nose creeps up on you, dishing out blackberry, pain grille and fruitcake, later chestnuts, unfurling slowing in the glass. It is soft and...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, July 2017

Tasted at the Trotanoy vertical in Hong Kong, the 2009 Trotanoy has long been one of the standout Pomerols in what was a fecund year for the appellation. This bottle reaffirmed previous reviews, although the aromatics...

Decanter, June 2019

A vintage that Edouard Moueix summed up succinctly by comparing it to a friend that is always ready to please, to the point that you can't help but try to find fault. What that means in the glass is that you get plenty of...

jebdunnuck.com, December 2017

The 2010 Clinet is a baby, but man, what a wine. Checking in as mostly Merlot, with small amounts of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this deep ruby/purple-tinged beauty gives up fresh, tight aromas of...

Wine Enthusiast, February 2012

Beneath the surface tannins is great Merlot fruit very ripe and full-bodied a powerhouse of flavors. The depth and complexity of the wine is all there along with a dark core of dryness. A wine for long-term aging. Cellar...

Pomerol’s famous Trotanoy, whose soil was too hard to work and thus called “trop anoi” (too annoying) in medieval French, is located on one of the most beautiful parts of the Pomerol plateau. The fascinating soil diversity—half gravel mixed with clay and half deep black clay —with the presence of “machefer” or iron pan in the subsoil, brings power, depth and complexity to the wine.

Chateau Trotanoy’s vineyard was one of the few not to freeze in 1956 and today, it is comprised of very old vines, the average being close to 35 years. 90% of the vines are Merlot, the rest Cabernet Franc.

Trotanoy was acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix, who own many other properties in both Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, including Magdelaine, Belair-Monange, La Fleur-Petrus, Lafleur-Gazin, Lagrange, Latour a Pomerol, and Hosanna.

Trotanoy is vinified in small concrete vats and the young wine matures in 50% new oak barrels for about 18 months. When ready, this wine shows enormous complexity and concentration. It can easily be kept 25 years or more in great vintages.
