The energy and focus that is typical of the cooler sites within the Santa Lucia Highlands comes through in the 2010 Pinot Noir Rosella’s. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and spices are woven together nicely as the wine works its way to a long, focused finish. The Rosella’s is one of the more feminine wines here. This is another terrific showing. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. - Antonio Galloni

Aromas of black cherry and pomegranate mix with notes of cola, baking spice, forest floor and just a hint of mint on a cool, compelling nose. On the palate, dark fruit is supported by fine tannins and a core of vibrant acidity, making this much more focused than what you typically find from the Central Coast. Rosella’s is one of the cooler sited in the Santa Lucia Highlands, which is clearly reflected in this wine. This is absolutely beautiful right now (2017), and should continue to drink well for another 7-10 years.

Located in the bucolic Carmel Valley of Monterey County, Ben Pon turned his energies from car design (he developed the Volkswagon van) and race car driving towards winemaking in developing Bernardus Winery. The warmer temperatures of Carmel Valley are more suited to growing Bordeaux varietals so wineries that pursue a passion for pinot noir must secure fruit over the eastern hills in the cooler climes of the Santa Lucia Highlands. One of the top sites in the AVA, Rosella's Vineyard supplies grapes to many of the best wineries specializing in Monterey pinot. The grapes for this cuvee are a blend of 777 and the very rare Pisoni clone aged for 10 months in 40% new oak from four of Burgundy's best coopers. Only 321 cases produced.
