I loved the 2010 Clos L'Eglise, a wonderfully complex, layered, seamless Pomerol that has perfectly ripe red and black fruits intermixed with classic truffle, smoke, and leafy herb nuances. This flawlessly balanced beauty has medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, velvety tannins, and a beautiful finish. Drink 2025-2045.

Another top vintage of Clos l'Eglise from the Garcin family. The 2010 is from 6 hectares and is composed of 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc with a darky shiny red/purple color. This has an ultra rich nose full of blackberry liqueur dark currants and a delicious chocolatey character. Despite being so full-bodied this is an unctuous sexy wine with lots of focus and complexity. This finishes long with velvety tannins and should age gracefully. I almost never call a wine sexy but this one really succeeded and is one of the top Pomerols of the vintage. (Tasted at Chateau Barde-Haut)

Concentrated with sweet, ripe, lush, concentrated, dark red berries, that are complicated with the addition of dark cherry, even darker chocolate and truffle. Plush textures, depth of flavor and energy make everything work here. Give it another 5 years and this will be even better.

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Clos l'Eglise leaps from the glass with vivacious baked raspberries, warm red and black plums and dried herbs notes plus wafts of pencil shavings and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has impressive energy with a firm line of chewy tannins and bold freshness, finishing with loads of zip in its step.- LPB

The 2010 Clos l’Eglise is more closed and introverted on the nose compared to the previous vintage, but affording it 15-20 minutes in the glass, it reveals beguiling redcurrant, raspberry coulis, rose petal and crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a little more weight than the 2009. This is vibrant and surprisingly spicy, a liberal sprinkling of black pepper towards the finish that fans out wonderfully. Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Clos l'Eglise 2010 has an intense bouquet with dense black fruit mixed with autumn leaves and crushed rock - well defined with good lift. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little chewy on the fruit palate but plenty of substance and grip towards the liquorice-tinged finish. There is a fine sense of energy here: no frills but everything in its right place.

Offers gorgeous mouthfeel, range of fruit and length. A velvety feel belies the dense structure buried here, while thoroughly enticing linzer torte, plum sauce and blackberry pâte de fruit flavors pump along, supported by singed spice, apple wood and ganache. Displays flesh, structure, definition and drive. One for the cellar. Best from 2016 through 2030. – JM
