Chateau Chambrun is emerging as a worthy competitor to what is generally considered to be the finest wine of the appellation La Fleur de Bouard. Cropped at 21 hectoliters per hectare and made from a final blend of 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc the 2010 is a real blockbuster. Its dense purple color is followed by a big sweet nose of melted chocolate espresso roast blackberries and cassis. Aromatic rich unctuously textured and thick it achieved 14.5% natural alcohol and should drink nicely for 7-8 years.

I love the chocolate and bright fruit on the nose and palate here. Full and velvety with loads of fruit. Maybe a little hollow on the center palate. But long and gorgeous.

This captures the ripeness of the vintage nicely with lush linzer torte and blackberry notes carried by plush well-integrated structure. Score range: 89-92 -JM
