From first sniff on through to its very long, tannin-firmed finish, this very solid, nicely extracted Merlot is marked by continuous and incisive, black cherry fruit, and its carefully placed oak lends a fine trim of sweet spice without ever once interfering with its keen fruity message. It is supple and slightly rounded in feel just as good Merlot should be, yet it has the grip and integral tannin of a wine meant for keeping and will age famously for another half decade or more.

Among the five Merlot cuvees, the least expensive is the 2010 Merlot Napa. Chunky, fleshy red and dark fruits jump from the glass of this dark ruby/plum-colored wine. It possesses good purity, attractive fruit and a spicy, long finish. This seductive Merlot should drink well for 8-10 years. - Robert Parker
