Opulent round and full-bodied it achieved 14.7% natural alcohol and should drink well for 7-8 years.

Dark and winey with lots of currant and red licorice fruit. Tangy and taut through the finish. Nicely focused. Tasted non-blind. -J.M.

The La Goulee is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot and it quite reticent on the nose at first but opening gradually with blackberry cedar and black plum struck through with a hint of graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins quite Margaux like and floral with a pretty but taut finish. This should mellow nicely by the time of bottling. Drink 2012-

The wine was launched by Cos d'Estournel in the 2003 vintage produced from grapes grown on gravelly rolling hillside vineyards along the Gironde River estuary well north of St Estephe. Complex and evolved the perfumed nose displays fresh spring flowers leading to intense black and blue fruit and followed by tar fresh turned earth and crushed pebbles. This modern styled wine offers plus concentration of blackberry and boysenberry brambly and spicy. The alluring texture shows exceptional lushness for the vintage with integrated supple tannins.
