Decanter, January 2020

Layered, textured, deep, cigar box, cassis and earth, managing to simultaneously stretch out, and burrow down. The edges open slowly but surely and seductively. Still inky in colour, this has all the powerful texture and...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2022

The most powerful wine in this vertical is the 2010 Léoville Las Cases, a full-bodied, deep and multidimensional behemoth redolent of rich berries, cassis, burning embers, pencil shavings and loamy soil. Broad-shouldered...

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, March 2014

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Leoville Las-Cases 2010 has a very elegant bouquet with earthy, tobacco infused black fruit, fine delineation and well-integrated oak. It is tight at first, but...

One of the oldest Medoc estates, Domaine de Leoville belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before it was acquired by the Las Cases family. Like many properties after the French Revolution, the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840 into the three Leovilles we know today: Leoville-Las Cases, Leoville-Poyferre and Leoville-Barton.

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases was created, thanks to a kind of birthright, from three-fifths of the original estate, including the very heart of the property. The Grand Vin has therefore been sourced from the best part of the original terroir since the 17th century.

Pierre Jean, Adolphe, and Gabriel de Las Cases were successive heirs to the property until 1900, when Theophile Skawinski purchased a share in the estate and became its manager. Leoville-Las Cases has now been managed by the same family since the late 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, sole owner of the chateau and proprietor of Chateau Potensac in the Medoc and Chateau Nenin in Pomerol.

The Grand Vin is the product of exceptional terroirs from the heart of the original Leoville estate. These are located mainly in the Clos Leoville-Las Cases, which you pass as you leave the village of Saint-Julien for Pauillac. They extend over nearly 60 hectares producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a complex, polished expression and characteristics which are totally unique to the Grand Vin of Las Cases.

Allow me to introduce you to the exquisite 2010 Leoville-Las Cases, a Bordeaux Blend that hails from the renowned St Julien region in Bordeaux, France. This wine is a true representation of the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into creating a world-class Bordeaux.

In the glass, the 2010 Leoville-Las Cases displays a deep, ruby-red color that immediately catches the eye. The nose is a sensory delight, offering a symphony of aromas that include perfectly ripe berries, cassis, and blueberries. With each swirl, additional layers of complexity emerge, revealing hints of earthiness, tobacco, and toasty brioche. The bouquet is elegant and refined, showcasing the wine's maturity and impeccable balance.

On the palate, this wine truly shines. With a full-bodied and muscular structure, the 2010 Leoville-Las Cases commands attention with its immense concentration and power. The tannins are polished and velvety, providing a luxurious texture that envelops the palate. The acidity is vibrant and refreshing, adding a lively freshness to the wine. The fruit flavors are regal, with notes of dark cherry, blackberry, and currants dancing on the tongue. As you savor each sip, the wine reveals its multidimensionality, with nuances of burning embers, pencil shavings, and loamy soil.

Critics have been enamored by the 2010 Leoville-Las Cases, with scores reaching as high as 100 points. Jeff Leve of TheWineCellarInsider.com describes it as "concentrated and filled with layers of perfectly ripe berries," while Neal Martin's Wine Journal praises its "very elegant and harmonious" profile. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate hails it as a "prodigious, somewhat imposing Las Cases," and Wine Enthusiast awards it a perfect 100-point score, calling it a "hugely powerful wine" with immense potential.

With an alcohol percentage of 13.5%, the 2010 Leoville-Las Cases offers both finesse and longevity. While it is already showing its incredible character, this wine is still in its infancy, with significant aging potential. If you have the patience, it is recommended to cellar this wine for several more years to allow it to fully blossom and reach its peak.

To experience the magnificence of Bordeaux in a single sip, indulge in the 2010 Leoville-Las Cases. This wine is a testament to the skill and dedication of the Leoville-Las Cases winery and is sure to captivate even the most discerning wine connoisseur.
