Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, September 2015

98+ The Usseglio’s consider the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul to be their greatest to date. I’ve done numerous tastings with the 2010 and 2007 side by side, and more times than not, I think the 2007 is...

jebdunnuck.com, September 2012

(97+) A deep, voluptuous, and concentrated Châteauneuf-du-Pape that’s a blend of 100% Grenache that is aged all in foudre and neutral barrel, the 2010 Domaine Pierre Usseglio Cuvée de mon Aïeul is deep purple and...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, June 2013

You can see the level of concentration of fruit in the deep color, and sense it on the palate with the decadent levels of sublime pure, ripe, fresh berries, silky tannins and in the long, rich finish. Usseglio has been on...

Wine Spectator, August 2012

A bold ripe almost heady style with thickly layered blueberry fig and boysenberry fruit laced with mouthwatering spice and melted black licorice followed by a long fruitcake-filled finish. This has the stuffing and grip...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, December 2011

18/20 Dark crimson. Very ripe, almost porty on the nose. Lustrous and polished. Black cherry soup. Then quite marked tannin and acidity. Should make old bones. Quite dramatic. ‘Twould be interesting to taste this...

Domaine Pierre Usseglio was founded in Chateauneuf-du-Pape by Pierre’s father, Francis in 1948. Pierre eventually took the reigns and, since 1999, his children have run the estate. The Domaine holds 15 small vineyard plots throughout the AOC, totaling 22 hectares. Only one of those hectares is planted to white grapes. The remainder, with a mix of rocky and sandy soils, represent approximately 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault, 2% Counoise and 2% Muscardin. Domaine Pierre Usseglio makes three red wines and one white.

Cuvee de Mon Aieul is a selection of grapes from vines 75 to 90 years old. They come from plots on La Crau, les Bédines or les Serres, where the soils are sand and stone, covered in the regions famous galets. A pure and concentrated wine, the nose is very complex with notes of raspberries, licorice and spices. It is a powerful wine yet retains great elegance, and is at its best between 10 and 12 years of age.
