The aromas to this are incredible with blueberry, minerals, dried flowers, and stones. It goes to dried meat and spices. Full body and incredibly integrated with blackberry, licorice, and minerals. There's a wonderful...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2020

The 2010 Pontet-Canet offers a very deep garnet color. Whoa—the nose explodes with a vast array of black fruit preserves and savory nuances: plum preserves, blackcurrant cordial, black cherry coulis and licorice with...

The Wine Independent, June 2022

The 2010 Pontet-Canet is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-black in color, it sashays out of the glass with opulent scents of Chinese five spice, smoked...

65% cabernet sauvignon 35% merlot. 35 year old vines farmed on 120 hectares of which 30% are ploughed by horse. 2010 is the first vintage certified bio dynamic. 60% new oak. What is most interesting about the 2010 Pontet...

jebdunnuck.com, June 2025

The 2010 Château Pontet Canet is still beautiful, with a youthful sense of style in its darker currants, saddle leather, violets, graphite, and floral aromatics. These carry to a full-bodied, rich, concentrated, and...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2013

Dense, yes, but this is also a handsome wine that balances complex tannins with pure black currant fruits that shine. This biodynamic wine has a generous, full and rich feel, ripe with just a touch of restraint. The...

Class in glass. Deep ruby, youthful tone. Such sumptuous red berry, cassis and tobacco aromas. Juicy and full bodied, with smoothly textured tannins. The creamy mid palate texture is framed by an impressive arc of tension...

Velvety tannins, intense with a black cherry and luscious creamy blackberry, fresh fig and raspberry fruits, with tobacco, liquorice, cedar, sandalwood, fennel. It's a wine to love, higher alcohol than usual in Pauillac...

Wine Spectator, March 2013

This is big, broad and powerfully rendered, but remarkably polished and refined at the same time. An enormous core of roasted fig, blackberry and black currant fruit is suavely wrapped with roasted apple wood and...

Vinous, April 2020

The 2010 Pontet-Canet is noticeably deep in colour compared to its peers. This is unusually ripe and sweet on the nose, more red than black fruit, maybe a little jammy and confit-like. I would never guess this was a 2010...

Chateau Pontet-Canet is bright and brilliant with full-bodied fruit, yet finesse, in the mouth. It expresses energy, tension and intensity.

The fruit is fermented with native yeast in semi-conical concrete tanks that facilitate punch-downs. The wine then macerates for an additional four weeks before being removed from the pomace for maturation. One-third of the wine is aged in large, concrete amphorae, designed expressly for Pontet-Canet. The rest ages in French oak barrels.

The 2010 Pontet-Canet, a Bordeaux Blend from the Pauillac sub-region, is a wine that has garnered remarkable acclaim across the board, with several reviewers awarding it a perfect score. James Suckling, from jamessuckling.com, awarded it a full 100 points, lauding the wine for its "incredible" aromas of blueberry, minerals, dried flowers, and stones, and noted its "amazing transparency" that reveals the wine's unique terroir. He praised its seamless integration and the "wonderful purity" of its flavors, suggesting it be tried after 2018.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate also gave this vintage a perfect score, highlighting its deep garnet color and explosive nose of black fruit preserves, savory nuances, and exotic spices. The publication emphasized the wine's "epic length and depth," describing it as more expressive and seductive than many of its peers at this stage.

Wine Enthusiast and The Wine Independent each rated the wine at 98 and 100, respectively. Wine Enthusiast noted its dense yet "handsome" balance of complex tannins and pure black currant fruits, emphasizing its generous and rich feel. The Wine Independent cited its "opulent scents" and firm, grainy structure, describing it as deliciously drinkable with a "decadent spice and fruit preserves layers."

John Sweeney from JJ Buckley described the 2010 Pontet-Canet as "one of the stars of the vintage," appreciating its complex nose and impressive palate with a broad, silky texture. Meanwhile, Wine Spectator praised its powerful yet polished nature, noting a "terrific combination of power and precision."

This vintage, the first certified biodynamic, showcases a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. With its high alcohol content of 14.5%, it exhibits both weight and texture, promising a long aging potential and a drinking window stretching from 2020 to 2060.
