Wine Spectator, April 2015

Shows a good touch of bottle age and a notably oaky presence, marked by dill, vanilla bean and coconut notes wrapped around a rich, authoritative, full-bodied core of loamy earth, dark berry, licorice and espresso...

Silver Oak Cellars was founded in 1972 by entrepreneur Raymond T. Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer with one vision: the pursuit of exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. For 40 years, they have produced delicious and distinctive Cabernets from their Napa Valley and Alexander Valley wineries.

Both the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and the Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon are blends, made from grapes grown in both wineries’ estate vineyards as well as growers’ vineyards in each region. The two wines have always been separate and distinct, consistently representing the very best of their respective appellations.

After selecting Daniel Baron to succeed him as winemaker in 1994, Justin sold his share of Silver Oak to the Duncan family in 2001. The family continues to carry Ray and Justin’s vision forward, building a new, ideal winery after a fire devastated their Oakville property. The new winery, opened for harvest in 2008, is a symbol of the tradition of excellence and continuous improvement established by Silver Oak’s founders many years ago.

Silver Oak’s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a legendary wine from an iconic wine region, crafted with a single-minded focus on Cabernet excellence. The highest caliber fruit is sourced from three sustainably-farmed vineyards of different soil types, each contributing to the wine’s balance and complexity: Soda Canyon Vineyard with its deep, cobbly volcanic soils; Jump Rock Vineyard with its red, rocky soils; and Navone Vineyard with gravelly-loamy soils. Using an extended aging process, delicious wines are created that are eminently drinkable upon release.
