One of the oldest estates producing Brunello di Montalcino, Valdicava is located in the Montosoli area, famous in Montalcino for wines with great balance of body and aroma. Vincenzo Abbruzzese, owner and winemaker, has been making wine at Valdicava for more than 30 years. He and his family have long-crafted Sangiovese masterpieces, and their Brunellos are considered a benchmark - among the finest in the region. Vincenzo is known to be one of the masters of Brunello due to his passion and intense dedication to the vineyard, and clinical attention to detail at each step of the wine-making process.

Nearly 67 of the 333 acres of the property are dedicated to vines, all strictly Sangiovese. Martini Bramante, Vincenzo Abbruzzese’s grandfather, bought the property in 1953 and began bottling “Brunello Valdicava” in 1968. Today, with the help of Valdicava’s agronomist, Andrea Paoletti, and oenologist Attillio Paglio, Vincenzo has succeeded in bringing his wines to the next level and in establishing a stellar reputation.

Valdicava's philosophy is to work more in the vineyards to express balance and terroir. They like to produce a Brunello that represents the best tradition in structure and aromatics with more elegance, harmony, and fruit. Grapes from their Poggio, Pievecchina, Pratea and Sferracavallo vineyards provide for their primary wine, Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino.

The 2010 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino is a red wine that exudes elegance and finesse. Produced in the renowned region of Tuscany, Italy, this wine showcases the Sangiovese Grosso varietal, known for its complexity and depth.

Upon pouring, the wine displays a deep red color, with hints of garnet at the edges. The aromas that waft from the glass are nothing short of captivating. Layers of complex scents tantalize the senses, including incense, coffee, and licorice. There is also a distinct earthiness that adds a touch of wildness to the nose. As the wine opens up, pure red fruit notes emerge, creating a harmonious blend of enticing aromas.

On the palate, the 2010 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino delivers a remarkable experience. The wine is silky in texture, with tannins that seamlessly integrate into the overall structure. Flavors of vibrant red cherry fruit take center stage, accompanied by nuances of cola nut and spice. The wine possesses a beautiful tension that keeps the taste buds engaged, leading to a long and persistent finish.

This wine has received accolades from renowned wine critics. James Suckling awarded it a perfect score of 100 points, describing it as a wine with superb finesse and depth. He recommends giving it some time in the bottle to fully appreciate its endless length. The Wine Spectator also awarded it an impressive score of 97 points, praising its sumptuous aromas and elegant, yet firm structure.

The 2010 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino is a wine that promises a bright future. While it is already quite appealing, it will benefit from further aging. For those who have the patience, this wine is expected to reach its peak around 2023 and continue to evolve until 2043. With only 3,900 cases produced, this is a rare gem that should not be missed.
