jamessuckling.com, May 2017

Aromas of cherries and currants with hints of fresh rose petals. Full-bodied, very fruit-forward and flavorful. Long and rich. All about fruit and richness. Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast, August 2015

Aromas of baked dark-skinned fruit, cedar, cooking spice and a balsamic note unfold in the glass. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, and 5% Cabernet Franc, the firmly structured palate delivers ripe black...

Wine Spectator, July 2015

A rich, bright red, displaying plum, blackberry, boysenberry, leather and spice notes, allied to a dense structure. Built for the long haul, this remains balanced and juicy through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon...

Decanter, February 2018

Very youthful with ripe cassis, smoke, coffee and anise, the 2011 Solaia is laden with sweet dense fruit that just stops short of being top heavy. Admirably polished and silky tannins give this wine the balance it needs...

Solaia is a 50 acre (20 hectare), southwest-exposed vineyard of the Tignanello estate situated between 1150 and 1320 feet (350-400 meters) above sea level on stony soils consisting of calcareous clays and limestone rock. The Marchesi Antinori produced this wine for the first time in the 1978 vintage with a blend consisting of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, repeating the initial production in 1979. In the following vintages, 20% Sangiovese became part of the blend and adjustments to the ratio of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were made until the current composition of the blend was defined. Solaia is produced only in top vintages and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, or 1992.
