Reviews for 2011 Barde-Haut Bordeaux Blend

WS 93
Wine Spectator - Wine Spectator, April 2012
This has solid flesh with plum and cherry compote notes framed by a lightly taut plum skin edge. There's good spice through the finish. Well-extracted but not overdone.-J.M.

Tight and linear on the palate with a strong mineral overlay to the flavors of blackcurrant blackberry and aromatic spices. Very precise laser-like delivery of fresh fruits and minerals on the long finish which also shows a persistent note of violet. Another very good wine from Hélène Garcin in 2011: less extracted than in years past and more graceful and charming.

The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It has a sensual smooth texture attractive purity and a fine grip towards the finish that is long and spicy. Modern for sure and well made. Tasted April 2012.

A beautiful effort from Helene Garcin, the 2011 Barde-Haut is dominated by Merlot blended with Cabernet Franc. It boasts an impressively saturated plum/purple color as well as an attractive bouquet of creme de cassis, sweet cherries and bluer, mountain-like fruit. With good crunchiness, vibrant acidity, a sweet core of red and black fruits and medium body, this sleeper of the vintage should drink well for a decade or more. Normally this is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. - Robert Parker

The compact bouquet expresses mostly stone and minerals with fruit aromas subservient to the structural notes. Fresh flavors of cherry compote are intense tangy and vibrant. Some mellow tannins come into play underneath the slightly viscous texture in the background. The finish is juicy as the tannins become spicy and peppery all reined in by that vibrant acidity. Give the components 3-5 years to harmonize and enjoy through 2025. From the Garcin portfolio. Tasted twice.
