There is an herbal hint on the black fruit liqueur, spice and earthy aromas. This is a relatively big yet refined effort that possesses an admirable amount of mid-palate density as there is plenty palate staining dry extract on the linear and muscular finish that imparts a textured, even opulent mouth feel. This should drink well both young and old.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Echézeaux 2011 has a well-defined bouquet with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, and just a slight charred tincture (and it is really only a tincture) in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with quite light tannins for a grand cru, but the fruit is detailed with raspberry, blackberry and cranberry segueing into quite a tertiary finish. This improves with aeration attaining more delineation as it opens.- NM
