The Mantengoli family has owned the La Rasa property in Tuscany since 1933, but it wasn’t until 1988 that Andrea Mantengoli and his brother Marcello became involved in the production of high quality Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines. Starting at just 1 hectare of vineyard, the first production of their “La Serena” range was only 2,700 bottles of Brunello. This has since been increased to 30,000 bottles as the organic vineyard has been extended to 8.5 hectares.

The grape harvest for La Serena Brunello normally occurs during the first two weeks of October. When alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are complete, a period of 2 years follows during which the wine matures traditional barrels of 20 hl (and 10% in 225 l barriques).

The 2011 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino is a remarkable red wine that embodies the essence of Tuscany. With its deep ruby color and enticing aromas, this wine is a true delight for the senses. Produced by La Serena, a reputable winery in the Brunello di Montalcino sub-region, this wine showcases the Sangiovese Grosso varietal at its finest.

On the nose, the 2011 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino reveals a bouquet of earth, dried fruit, and leather, intermingled with spicy notes. These complex aromas invite you to take a sip and discover the full-bodied and very ripe flavors that await. Raisin and dark chocolate undertones add depth and richness to the wine, while a touch of alcohol lends a pleasant warmth.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling, who scored this wine a respectable 90 points, describes it as "delicious" and suggests that it can be enjoyed now or cellared for further development. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it 91 points, praising its softness, richness, and opulent style. The Wine Spectator also raves about this wine, giving it an impressive score of 93 points and praising its underbrush, eucalyptus, and sage flavors.

With its smooth texture, balanced acidity, and firm tannins, the 2011 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino offers a harmonious and refined drinking experience. It is recommended to cellar this wine until 2018, as it will continue to evolve and improve over time. With 2,500 cases produced and 1,500 cases imported, this is a wine that stands out for its quality and limited availability.

In conclusion, the 2011 La Serena Brunello di Montalcino is a superb red wine that captures the essence of the Tuscan terroir. With its enticing aromas, rich flavors, and high praise from wine critics, this wine is a must-try for any wine enthusiast. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is sure to impress with its complexity and elegance.
