Deep, brooding nose opens with aeration to offer enticing aromas of quince, passion fruit, honeyed peach and smoky botrytis. Dense, rich and suave, with oaky notes still dominating the creamy orange jam, mineral and spice flavors. Finishes with excellent length. This ripe, smooth Sauternes conveys an impression of austerity due to its bright harmonious acidity (6.5 g/l) and moderate 130 g/l residual sugar. Still very young wine and in need of patience to develop fully, but I really like its penetrating, almost riesling-like personality. - Ian D'Agata

The 2011 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a very primal nose with dried pineapple, beeswax, a touch of sea spray and wet stone. The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious, viscous entry and very well-judged acidity that lends tension and poise. There is something more effortless about this 2011 compared to recent vintages, with a tang of marmalade popping up on the finish that is very elegant. Excellent. - Neal Martin

A dense, sweet wine with dried pineapple, papaya and honey. Full body, very sweet and fresh. Spicy, botrytis character. Almost waxy undertone. Solid wine. Try in 2017.

Frankly sweet and very direct with candied green plum and green apple notes followed by quince and ginger flavors. Shows the racy side of the vintage but seems a bit shy on depth compared to the top examples.-J.M.

Barrel fermented then aged in 30% new oak. Expresses moderate complexity with notes of coconut cream and baking spice. Fresh and clean with vibrant acidity that masks the sugars nicely for a wonderful balance this shows some notes of marmalade and has moderate length. Enjoy over the next 10-15 years.
