While the wood-aging shows strongly in this young wine, it is already apparent that it is going to be intense, grandiose, opulent while serious. Great citrus layers give a moment of freshness in all this concentration. Green plums, ripe apricots and lemon are all developing, contrasting with the dense, mineral structure. The wine needs long-term aging, dont’ drink before 2020. - RV

An absolutely stunning nose features notes of oak toast, a wonderfully broad array of spice elements, both of which add breadth to the citrus and floral infused white orchard fruit aromas. As is often the case with this wine, it is built on its minerality with very fine intensity to the medium weight plus flavors that also culminate in an impressively long but still quite compact finish. The linear backend is clearly in need of time to flesh out but the underlying material is clearly here to allow that to happen. Moreover, one of the genuinely wonderful aspects of this wine in 2012 is the textured, pure and effortlessly stylish mouth feel. In short, this is stunning. 2020+

A smooth, almost oily-textured white, boasting peach, lemon cake, clove, butterscotch and floral aromas and flavors. All the components are in the right place, but this needs time to come together. Offers a long, mouthwatering and mineral-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2018 through 2033. From France. — B.S.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru from Louis Jadot has a slightly touch of reduction, but it merely enhances the bouquet that delivers pure beeswax, jasmine and honeysuckle aromas, just a hint of brioche that emerges with time. The palate is clean and fresh on the entry with very well judged acidity. There is a lot of weight here, very focused and intense, a bolder and more extravagant Chevalier-Montrachet than Philippe Colin's Chevalier-Montrachet. This is a grand cru that needs time to be tamed. - Neal Martin
